Updating my overdue reviews and had came here at least 3 times today as of writing.
The food is tasty and the staff are very friendly. We love the assam fish head and the white bee hoon. The asparagus with seaweed is special. Overall me and my family like this establishment!
Friendly and attentive staff. Nice cosy environment. Food is good and delicious. We especially love the assam curry fish head, quite spicy yet taste good. Do try their dessert as well. Overall worth coming again for dinner.
Unpretentious place serving family favourite Chinese food! Fried rice was simple yet delicious. Spinach and egg soup came steaming hot, goes well with rice. The oyster omelette was a new find, crispy edges served with chilli on top! Food was served pretty quickly. Service was attentive and polite. The price is reasonable for the quality of food. Definitely will return!
My family and I came to Gu Ma Jia on Saturday for dinner. As it was a last minute decision, we did not make any reservations. Nevertheless, we had a table within a minute of arrival.
The lady boss and her daughter were extremely friendly and service-oriented. The menu they provided were very clear and informative on the dishes they have.
So we ordered 2 of their signature dishes - the Assam Fish Head and Kyoto Pork Ribs. As I do not like to eat fish, I ordered an additional Prawn Paste Chicken Wings, and wrapped up with a Stir Fried Garlic Broccoli.
The dishes came fast despite many tables at the lower level being occupied. The Assam Fish Head was sourish and mildly spicy, perfect to go with rice. The gravy was delicious!
The Kyoto Pork Ribs was a bit too sourish for my liking, but the meat was extremely tender. I ate at least least the dish myself.
The Prawn Paste Chicken Wings and Fried Garlic Broccoli were of a decent standard.
All the food were finished rather quickly despite the adults being not hungry, an account of how tasty the food were.
Finally, ordered 2 mango puddings for the my kids and the my in laws shared the lady boss recommended Kefir Jelly dessert. Not sure what was the name of the dessert, and did not managed to get a picture of it. But my mother in law loved it! My wife and I tried a spoon of it. The texture was like aiyu jelly with some citrus elements. This dessert would be perfect after a very filling dinner.
Highly recommend this place to everyone. And we will be back soon for the tasty food again!
Located just 5mins+ walk from Potong Pasir MRT, Gu Ma Jia serves a decent varieties of local 煮炒 that are simple yet delicious.
The Assam Groupa Fish Head was quite spicy and goes very well with rice. Kyoto pork ribs were very tender with appetising sweet and sour sauce. Salted egg prawns were very fresh but otherwise pretty normal. What surprise me was the ying yang kai lan which was served with deep fried shredded kai lan leaves and crunchy kai lan stems.
Staff were very prompt in service and friendly as well. Recommended to make reservations during Friday night and weekend to avoid not being able to get seats. Pricing were reasonable as well.
Overall definitely one of the better zi char restaurants option in Singapore.
There are plenty of dessert cafe and bar next to it for after meal chilling sessions as well.
Food was great. Service was simply wonderful. Brought my family here, its very homely. Highly recommended!
Came for lunch on a weekday with reservation so no need to queue.
The lala bee hoon taste good, big portion and there is only one size available.
Pork rib was served flaming and it taste really tender.
I was rather disappointed with the assam fish head which is one of their signature dish, really nothing special. We didn't even finish half of it.
Curry fish head are not bad, taste good reasonable size. The rest of the dishes pricier. If you don't mind the price that's no reason to not to go. Just pay more. Please note that you will still need to pay for GST and service charge. 2022 boxing day I go there with my family again. This place are good with their zhi char, so nice didn't disappointed me. Excellent service. The foods also taste good. We order crabs which are good highly recommend.
